I am in such a good mood today & I really hope it lasts. It's Friday, it's payday, my boss is out of town & we got our income tax refund this morning.

This weekend we are going to dinner with another couple on Saturday night & the girls are staying at my MIL's until Sunday. Mike and I just had a date night 3 weeks ago so this is really soon after, but with Lacey's shower, just extra stress we've had, etc, I feel like it's been a lot longer and I'm really looking forward to tomorrow night.

The other couple we are going with is a friend of mine and her husband. The 3 of us grew up in the same church & did youth group & camps, etc together. I have known her since I was 8 and I've known him since I was about 13. They grew up and got married & moved to VA because he was in the Navy. They now have 2 handsome sons (ages 6 & 10 months). We lost touch for a few years because of their move and I was a little wild whereas she was married & settled. They moved back to OH after he got out of the Navy & we started hanging out again when I was pregnant with Taylor and her oldest was a baby. After I had Taylor she was one of the first to come see us at the hospital & our friendship has been a little "weird" for the past 3 years. Let me explain a little.

When I had Taylor we were living with Mike's mom & by the time she was 5 weeks we had decided it wasn't going to work for much longer. I had hung out at Amy & Gene's house (that's their names) on and off during those 5 weeks. When we decided we needed to find an apartment we talked to Amy & Gene because the apartment they were living in was a house & they lived in the downstairs, but the upstairs was vacant. Well by the time Taylor was 2 months old we had moved into the upstairs apartment. Of course our friendship only blossomed from their. I was going to school in the mornings and she was still a student too. She worked part time and I also waitressed at a banquet center on Friday nights. So we devised a plan, I would watch her son on the mornings that she worked & on Friday evenings she watched Taylor for about 5 or 6 hours when/if my mom wasn't available. It worked out well.

We would leave the two kids with our husbands to go grocery shopping together on the weekends so then Mike & Gene got to be pretty close. On Saturday nights we would put the kids to bed and haul the baby monitors outside to sit by the bonfire or they would come up or we would go down there & watch a move when the weather was crappy.

I was really happy when Mike & Gene got to be close too because most of the time we hang out with my friend & "her husband" so it's a little awkward. Since then there is another couple that Mike has become friends with her husband so it's nice too.

3 years ago we moved out of the apartment to buy our house. 2 months after we bought our house they bought a house about an hour away. Well as you can imagine with both of us having two kids and OH winters, we don't see each other all that often anymore. Both of our husbands work afternoons & we both work in the morning so talking on the phone is kind of out of the question also. So I talk to Amy every few months, but when we do talk it's like no time has passed at all. We went to the movies last June & then we have seen them twice since then. Once was last month at her oldest sons birthday party & we promised to get together soon.

Last Saturday I get a text from her that says, "Do you and Mike have plans for the commercially most romantic day of the year?" I was on the phone with someone else & didn't check my message right away so she sent me another that says, "I am trying to ask you on a date & you are ignoring me." Of course I then texted her back & we set up the plans for tomorrow. I miss both of them so much so I am so excited to be hanging out with them tomorrow night. Oh yeah, and to be able to hang out with my husband

So that is the story of our "weird" friendship. I am so glad that we can pick up right where we left off though. It is nice to have a friend that when you have an extra minute to call it's not like, "Well I haven't talked to them for 5 months, will they even want to catch up?" I just know that I can pick up the phone & pick up where we left off. Usually there is a lot of "Did I tell you..." But it's good to know she is a friend no matter what & will be there for me no matter what. So I am very excited to see her & to "catch up" again.

I hope everyone has a good weekend & a Happy Valentine's Day!

P.S. - Have I ever mentioned that I am blessed with a wonderful circle of friends?
